Dentists in California are making it easier than ever to maintain a whiter, brighter smile.  Gone are the days when dental operations and check-ups would be painful and fearsome for the patients. With the introduction of Sedation Dentistry a visit to a California dentist has now become a painless affair. Sedation Dentistry is mainly about the use of sedatives and anesthetics in dentistry for painless dental operations. This was mainly introduced for the patients who feared dental check-ups and operations for painful and bad experiences. Sedation Dentistry has opened huge options for painless dentistry.

Some of them are – Anesthesia – Anesthesia refers to the loss of bodily sensation without the loss of consciousness. In dentistry anesthetics are used effectively to remove the sensation of the part of the mouth to be operated, temporarily. The different types of anesthesia include: Local Anesthesia – This is the most commonly used sedation by dentists for operating on the teeth. An anesthetic is injected in the affected part of the mouth and in a few minutes the area becomes numb to any sensation. After this the operation is done. The numbing sensation may last for a 20 to 30 minutes. General Anesthesia – In this type of anesthesia the patient falls asleep losing all bodily sensations. The effect may last from 1 to 2 hours depending on the dosage used. Inhalation Anesthesia – This is a technique of inducing an elated feeling in the patient by making him inhale Nitrous Oxide which is a harmless gas also known as “Laughing Gas”. Although in complete senses the patient has a happy sensation and loses all the fear he had before coming to the dentist in CA.

Yet another common method is Oral Sedation. Sometimes before treatment, the dentist gives an oral pill to the patient which makes him sleepy and diminished of senses and sounds. This sensation can last for a couple of hours. Intramuscular Sedation: This includes injecting a sedative in the arm or a muscle of the body which causes sedation in a few minutes. Intravenous Sedation – This type of sedation leaves no memory of the treatment by the dentist in the patient. This type of sedation is carried out by only a specialist. The advent of Sedation Dentists in California has made dental treatments both easy and painless for the patients. The sedatives chosen by the dentists are according to the comfort level of the patient and completely safe. Thus, the next time you visit your dentist, feel free to enquire about sedative dentistry and how it will help you to overcome your fear and anxiety.
